This is the first thread all new members should be reading.
Welcome to The Legend of Zelda: The Legion Hero.
This is a text-based, turn-based, role-playing game, obviously, involving the world of the Legend of Zelda. If you are familiar with the franchise, this should not be too difficult to get the hang of, atmosphere-wise.
First things first: If you don't understand how text-based and/or turn-based RPGs work, then we suggest you learn quickly. The game world leaves little to mistakes, and poor-roleplaying has low tolerance. You can find a 'Guide to Role-Playing' in this board. If you have further questions, you can ask in the General board by posting up questions about it. Any players will be able to help you out.
Back on topic, here I will explain the most prominent duty of the game: making characters. Simple step-by-step instructions will be laid out here explaining what must be done before you can stick your character into the game.
1. Read the Prologue
Every Zelda game has a general theme and particular thing that the story revolves around. To understand the aspects of this Zelda story, it's important you know just what is going on.
2. Character Brainstorming
After you have become a member, you will need to start learning about the rules of the game, such as progressing through temples, acquiring items, gaining reputation, as well as learning about the races available to you(eleven in all) for your new adventurer(s). If you want to jump into making characters, it is recommended to read both the Player's Library and the Item Library to see the races and items available.
3. Create your Character
Use the character sheets in the Start New Game section. After reading up on the site and things available to you, this part should not be too difficult.
Be mindful of the weapons/subweapons you choose for your character, dependant on the race you chose.
Every character has a magic pouch akin to Link's which allows them to carry a variety of items no matter what size. While the possibilities of items you carry may be limitless, All characters will start the game with a set amount of items.
Items are categorized in Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Unique. Your character cannot start off with any Rare or Unique items, though you can start off with the following combinations of Common and Uncommon items: choose to have up to four common items,.. or two common and an uncommon item,.. or two uncommon items.
You can have up to 7 characters maximum. If you want to create more characters, one of your old characters can go missing, imprisoned, or die, and you can switch that slot out for a new one.
If you wish, you can make a Story Character for the Administration to use. Follow the same character creation rules, and add 'Story Character' to the top of the sheet(not the title of the thread). Remember that only the administration can use these kinds of characters, so you can make them as powerful as you'd like as they would only be used for story progression. The entire character sheet for Story Characters are accessible for viewing by the members.
3. The Examination Room
After you feel your character is complete, you are free to post it up in the Examination Room. All evaluations are done publicly, and while it is the staff members who have the final say, any member on the board is able to give their two cents about a character.
Once approved, the character will be moved to the appropriate Library, where you will be able to update it yourself with new items you've attained as well as updating your own history.
Warning: an original copy of each sheet will be kept for record purposes. If someone is caught editing their items to things they did not originally have/have not collected in the game, there will be consequences.
4. Starting the Game
Once your character(s) is/are approved, you're set. Go into the game world, enter one of the already-active threads(provided your character is capable), or create your own.
*It's recommended to add a setting for the first post of your story threads, so that the rest of the members know where/when it is taking place.
**This game has a high-detail encouragement. Try and write as you would write a book.
Ex. do not post: "Sits in the middle of a bar, and orders a drink"
post: "Master Payne sat in the middle of the bar, looking around the room ominously, and promptly asked for a beer."
For reference, here is a quick setup for someone who wants to make a character pronto:
Read
1) Player's Guide
2) Rules and Regulations
3) Playable Library
4) Item Library
This is all you need to get started. More is touched upon throughout the Getting Started category. Remember that guests can post threads and ask questions regarding the game in the general board. Be sure to read all the rules and regulations.
