Although the fantastic battles between good and evil are rooted by strong storylines and character development (should be, anyway), it is almost inevitable to make it through the entire game without entering a single fight or conflict. This is an RPG for the creative mind, where the story should be every bit as fascinating as the game itself. Here's the lowdown on how it goes:
Each member, in their post, writes out what their characters are doing in the particular thread.
This is all pretty self-explanatory, as this site was created for those who already have a good grasp on the concept. Now for some extra info:
In this game, you cannot control the outcome of other players' characters without meeting certain requirements:
1) The other player does not mind.
2) The character in question is a minion-type character.
Here is an example of what I am trying to get across:
Written by Player 1:
"Soros rushed in, sword swinging as she landed slashes across Modney's body. Modney took the damage so badly, he dropped to his knees in tears and blood."
Player 1 has Soros, Player 2 has Modney. This is a kind of post discouraged. Player 1 can't possibly know how Player 2's character would react, and to attempt such a thing is disrespect. It is Player 2's prerogative in the next post to not only determine whether the punches land, but to determine what Moe does next.
Player 1 and Player 2 write this instead:
"Soros rushed in, fists flying at Modney's body."
"Modney was able to block most of the attacks, but the last punch caught him in the chest and he stumbled back a bit, growling. He backed off in defense."
It's all one giant honor system, basically. "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If you want to be respected in the RPing game, you have to give a little as well(Although there can be times where you can evade an attack entirely). However, there are times that, if an RPer is crafty enough, he can land hits that the opponent simply cannot block without abilities:
"Sparten's arms raised high, and he released the bomb arrow on the ground right in front of Ben, leaving a small explosion for him to taste."
In this kind of post, it is Player 2's responsibility to use his correct abilities to evade the attack(moving away from the point, or attacking the projectile with another projectile, etc.), defend against it(provided he has the armor or items to do such), or take it.
Again, this is something you will have to experiment yourself. If you find yourself performing actions in the game that cause other players to OOC(out of character text) you about it often, then something you're doing is wrong. Or possibly, just wrong to them. Such matters will always be reviewed by a staff member.
This is just a simple beginner's guide. The only way to truly learn about RP combat is to do it yourself.
